Tools in the Trades Boot Camp goes to Saugeen Shores

With a tremendous turnout and remarkable contributions from key industry players, the Tools in the TradesBoot Camp in Saugeen Shores was a resounding success. As part of its grand opening, Saugeen Sparks TrainingCenter brought together labour unions, employers, and aspiring tradespeople to celebrate the future of skilledtrades in the region. It was a day filled with excitement and promise, where we had the privilege of taking centerstage with our plumbing Boot Camp amidst a crowd of dignitaries and businesses.

Honouring tradition, the day began and ended with traditional Indigenous ceremonies, adding a deeplymeaningful touch to the event. This acknowledgement of the cultural significance and contributions ofIndigenous communities resonated throughout the day.

Bruce Power, recognizing the need for skilled trades workers for their upcoming project, donated an incredible$100,000 to the training center. They also expressed a strong desire to partner with Tools in the Trades infuture endeavours to help promote the skilled trades as a rewarding career path.

The event saw the presence of various labour unions, including the Provincial Building and Construction TradesCouncil of Ontario, Millwrights Regional Council, UA 527 Plumbers/Welders, Ironworkers Local 726, Women inConstruction, CUSW, LiUNA Local 11059 Labourers, and Boilermakers Local 128. Employers such as Framatome,Aecon, and Wilson’s Plumbing were also in attendance.

Participants at the Boot Camp event expressed their appreciation and enthusiasm for the program. BruceCounty Economic Development commended the Tools in the Trades team for their dedication saying, “Such afantastic turnout today! Well done Tools in the Trades”, while the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre shared thekind words, “Tools in the Trades instructors addressed the participants during the hands-on learning phase ofthe plumbing program! AMAZING JOB!!!”.

Event organizer, Rob Stanley, was thrilled with how the day turned out, explaining, “We had a fabulous event inSouthampton. The Tools in the Trades program was a big hit with the participants, and for such a large numberof registrants, the program was executed without a glitch. What a fabulous and very professional team. It was anabsolute pleasure working alongside the Tools in the Trades team.”

The grand opening of the Saugeen Sparks Training Center signifies a significant step towards addressing thedemand for skilled trades workers in the area and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We share the same goal ofcontinuing to inspire and empower the next generation in such an important set of industries.
